14 May 2009 @ 09:37 pm
i'm back! and departing again swiftly tomorrow for lancaster to see BWNK!'s fam and camp with friends, so before i leave, let me tell you what i did while i was gone:

BWNK! and i got back to brooklyn about 3:15 this afternoon after an 8 hour and 45 minute drive from Acadia National Forest!
it all started last Sunday when we left Brooklyn with our sites set on Portland, ME (not MA, thanks lucy!)
highlights of portland included a cheap motel, ice cream at beal's where my coworker kate used to work, and the best beer i have ever had. it was called vacationland and it's a summer ale from a place called gritty mcduff's.
yum!

i highly recommend it to anyone who ever makes their way up to portland; the onion petals were also delicous. oh did i mention accidently biking on a highway and over an unlit bridge at night to get back to said motel from downtown portland? whoops...

monday = BRIDGES! ROCKPORT! and OFF-TRAIL HIKES! oh my! )

Tuesday is sponsored by the letter B! it featured bike rides, beavers, bar harbor and the bubble! )

Wednesday featured possible food poisoning and some time on the western half of mount desert island; it had a lighthouses, a fire houses, and my favorite hike. )

my thoughts on day 3 without a shower

and i must say after all that, and not showering for three days till just moments ago, i have never felt so clean in all my life!

08 May 2009 @ 02:03 pm
so look i'm posting again, so soon!
as an update from last time here are some adorable pictures of my parents and i and california:
catalina cove

dad, i, and the mystery machine

mom and i at san capistrano (an old spanish mission)

so last time i posted i mentioned i had an exciting week ahead which was true, so let's review shall we?

SATURDAY helped jill with her play and hung out in midtown crashing at agatha's
SUNDAY left from agatha's and rode to my coworkers morning-after birthday party uptown and got SOAKED! but then came home changed and went to bowery ballroom to see the antlers, the papercuts, and vetiver and it was so mellow and beautiful and amazing! never heard the antlers before and they were surprisingly good for an opener-opener, papercuts are an old fav or BWNK!'s and didn't disappoint, but vetiver was AMAZING, a little tear of joy even came to my eye right as they played everyday cause i was there with BWNK! and i'd been dreaming of it all week.

MONDAY - yoga as per usual and later was the rev at black betty, only 6 more performances left till black betty is gone forever!
BWNK!, vance, lisa, and josie all came out. Unfortunately i had to leave before they played my fav song, TANGALICIOUS!, because i had "an interview" the next morning at 10am in midtown, LAMEZ : /

TUESDAY - "interview" turned out to be a total scam! i was so pissed but got home and jill asked me to go to yoga and even though it was the intermediate class we decided to go and WOAH! it was so intense but so amazing and it really helped out a crappy day. missed the comedy show in my own attic, but went to kiser's bday at b-side which was nice

WEDNESDAY - i ran 6 miles! i ran from my house to thompkins sq park walked the three edges of the park then ran back home. first time using my new running shoes in the city and it was awesome. then i got a haircut:
BEFORE:                                                                                            AFTER:

i pretty much just got bangs and cut out some of the crazy mulletness in the back. whaddayathink?

after haircut, i had NOW book club in manhattan on 28th st at 7th where we discussed francis perkins, which left me not far from woagies where i met up with BWNK! and noelle to go to  bowery ballroom again! and see...

AKRON/FAMILY and HOLYFUCKINSHITOMGSWEETJESUSFUCKSHITWOAH! it was the most intense, beautiful, spiritual, community experience of a show i think i have ever been to. the music was fantastic and made me want to dance from practially the first note and the whole crowd was SO into it. we all sang along and danced together like one big, weird tribe and it was great. two guys, a father and son actually, that play with the rev a lotwere part of the opening band and they played with the band too. they were all rockin out so hard, like 20 min jam sessions and shizzzz, AMAZING!!!!!!!! and i'm def not the only one that thinks so.

THURSDAY i went to yoga again as per unemployed usual, but generally spent most of the day trying to be responsible and apply for job and being online and whatnot. met up with BWNK! walked around got a tent for the-fastly-approaching-Maine-trip! and a bottle of cheap ass georgi and sodas which we sat around in a courtyard and drank and played 21 question while killing time before before never again which was amazing again (i have such talented friends!) then evan, beller, jill, BWNK!, kate, and i all kicked it at rudy's for a bit then jill, beller, BWNK!, and i all took the train home together. it was really a simple, lovely evening with friends. unfortunately, i missed mushpot dj night in redhook :(

TODAY! so far all i've done is help jill and BWNK! pick up all the props from the tank and bring them back to her house, apply for some jobs, and make and eat lunch, but! i am planning on seeing the thermals tonight (again at bowery ballroom, what do i live there?!)

02 May 2009 @ 02:54 pm
soooo, what has daniele been up to?
well for starters i'm UNEMPLOYED AGAIN, but this time it is AWESOME! becasue:

1) I qualify and should soon be receiving unemployment benefits!
2) I've been very good about keeping myself busy:
2a) I've applied for a lot of jobs and already have lined up two interviews, one which may send me away from new york more on that here )
2b) I also worked helping jill put the benefit party for her play together, which although financially was a success was socially a bit of a disaster and involved me being a baby and getting very upset when this gal passed out drunk in my bed in a pool of her own vomit. i also had to leave the next day from newark to hop a plane to california to see my parents, speaking of which

CALIFORNIA!

that's catalina island, my fav part of california we visited. it's a pretty rad place and has a fun history.
we rode bikes, ran along the pacific coast highway, ate LOTS of seafood, and just generally relaxed.
it was really nice :)  i love my parents.

back to keeping busy:
2c) i've been doing yoga at an awesome place near my house where it's only $5 if you go at 2pm on a weekday, which now that I'm unemployed I can do, yay! I go the beginner class twice a week and pilates once a week, looking forward to getting better so I can start doing the intermediate class they also have twice a week, so i can do MOAR yoga and have a more flexible schedule.

OTHER GENERAL NEWS:

A) i went to lancaster for easter and played frisbee golf again and had a blast kickin' t with BWNK!'s fam. i also picked up some thrifted stuff one of which was an oversized dress that i altered myself to make fit, someone's getting better with a sewing machine and i think it might be this gal.
B) right when i got back form there i went to a kickass liquor store/no bunny show at union pool and had a blast.
C) later that week i saw dead milkmen and corn mo at a place in greenpoint. it was an EPIC show; i had the shit beat and suffocated out of me but had a great time and still managed to ride and make it to josie's bday party (granted very late) after which i rode home and collapsed and slept for a long long time.

ZE FUTUR:
702) pretty stoked about how things are going, have tickets for:
702P) vetiver/papercuts this sunday at bowery ballroom
702Q) akron/family at the same place wednesday
     703R) the thermals this friday!!!
703S) and bill callahan and animal collective in the more distant future
703) also have a interview lined up for tuesday morning
704) THEN after all that i leave for BWNK! and i's super-special bonnie and clyde road/camping trip to maine and arcadia national forest!!!

ALSO OF NOTE:

M8) my roommate sheena is having a comedy show in our attic this tuesday
N9) scott is speaking about wine to gallatin alums tuesday
O10) jill's play, before never again starts tonight!
P11) the beets will be playing their anniversary show at out house MAY31ST
Q12) ryan, vance, and lisa will be having a housewarming BBQ the weekend before that to celebrate memorial day
R13) there's a camping trip to lancaster the may15-17, so COME!
S14) AND the ladies of mushpot will be having a dj night in red hook this thursday
T15) very very sad news, fanatic folded, yall :(

WOOOOOOO, life is busy. catch you later

bike news: my poor calves! so in case yall hadn't heard i'm trying to be all good at biking and shizzzz so maybe i can tour a bit this summer.
options include a leg of a cross country with some friends or touring the mountains with my folks,
SO a while back BWNK! and i decided we'd attempt a ride from philly to lancaster when we visited his family for easter, essentially i'm supposed to be riding 60 miles friday (if all goes to plan) SO to prep for that we decided to go on a long bike ride this weekend SO saturday (april 4th) we rode from the burg through queens over the queensboro bridge, up the east side, then over the third ave bridge to the bronx where we rode in circles all over getting lost but really just logging more time on teh bikes, eventually wondering back south and crossed the triboro (RFK?) bridge to randall's island where the bike i was riding tried to kill me, ) through randalls island then over the triboro again this time to queens from where we made on way back ot the neighb and enjoyed well deserved and VERY delicious sandwiches at boneshakers where i actually brought my bike in for once cause i felt like i kinda earned the right to that day.
i ALSO rode 15+ miles yesterday during a combo bar crawl/trip to midtown to see a coworkers play

work news: i got a very sweet (but still shitty) rejection letter from CENYC. i'm not going to lie, i was upset and cried more than i'm proud of, but then i bucked up and rode my ass off. off to the hopeless search to find a job half that perfect for me, le sigh.

social life: after the long bike ride saturday i took the subway to laura zeis' bacon robots birthday party which was delightful! sunday i went to jenn delavega's for brunch and birthday bar crawl which i left for a bit to go to midtown to see my coworker kate's AWESOME play, negative space, and finally returned back to the burg for the end of jenn's bar crawl which featured awesome dancing to brazilian beats at black betty towards the end of the night

broken bodies: last but not least, i keep waking up at like 8am and not being able to get back to sleep, so that means i've ridden 45-50 miles, stayed up till the wee hours of the morning partying the last two night and only gotten like 3-4 hours of sleep to help me recover #fml

27 March 2009 @ 12:36 pm
Hey LJ Friends! Guess what? I think I'm falling in love with livejournal again, and it's a good thing. I missed it.

Also as those rare few who've seen me lately know: I'VE BEEN SICK THREE TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH!

I just finally today got the last of the third round out of me (I think) and let me tell you it feels great. The third time I got sick, the lightbulb in my head FINALLY lit up that said, hey daniele, maybe you should try FUCKIN taking care of yo' self! so i said, ok, FINE if you INSIST i'll take some days off drinking, i'll eat some vegetable, I'll lay off the cigarettes, hell I'll even get extra sleep, and you know what? IT WORKED!!!!!
I FEEL GREAT! this whole little epsiode has served as a very good wake up call, i think I really will be thinking more about how to take care of myself. Which brings up the question? Does anyone have advice/companionship for a way for me to regain my former flexibility? I bike a fair amount which will only increase as the weather improves so I feel my cardio bases are pretty well covered, but my flexibilty has gone down the shitter, also since I'm no longer lifting bags of recycling day in and day out, perhaps I could even use some advice/companionship on lifting weights/muscle stuff.

Also with my day off work/get better day, I was very productive. After a lovely previous evening of hangouts at my home, Jill and I met for coffee and Jill-is-the-best-therapists-EVAR time. and it was wonderful. daniele <3 jill. then i went home and swept and mopped the first floor of my house, THEN i went to a beauty supply store in greenpoint and got bleach, THEN i went to ryan's and we made ourselves healthy sandwiches with baked chips for lunch and he bleached my roots. my hair now looks like this:
(excuse goofy face!) THANKS BWNK!

Then we lounged around, watched old dr who, made a BIG collage VERY quickly, and greeted the man delivering the cool new mod furniture. we also eventually made dinner then read books before heading to my place for sleepy times. it was kind of a "boring day" but it was what i needed.

emotional crap here! )
also i've been very productive craft-wise! katherine and i have been printing and i've been sewing more too! i hope to post my wares in a later, but still soon, post!

last but not least, i'm still waiting to hear back about a second interview for CENYC. i had my first interview, i thought it went really well, but the guy interviewing me was very up front about the fact that there were over 200 applications and he hadn't even looked over 100 of them yet. he said it'd be at least two weeks till i heard anything. so two days later i sent him a thank you email for the interview and bidded my time. two weeks officially passed two tuesday later and by three days after that (last friday) i still hadn't heard anything so I sent in a short but sweet, just checking in email. five minutes later i got a short email from the guy saying they were still in the process, so now my question is, it's been another week, what's my next step and when do i take it? remember this is the job of my DREAMS and i'll do ANYTHING in my power to get it. so lj friends, advice?

also apologies for super long post-ness!

26 January 2009 @ 01:51 pm
hey guys, remember when i actually used to use this things to make thoughtful (?) entries lightly sprinkled with entertaining links and/or images rather than spending hours upon hours at work refreshing my twitter page?
oh the good old days, anyways, there's a LOT going on in my life i don't have time to really update people on, but i hope to soon. most importantly right now is:

I WILL BE MOVING THIS WEEKEND FROM MY OLD PLACE TO TWO BLOCKS FROM THE LORIMER L/ METROPOLITAN G

i would really appreciate anyone's help i can get. i WILL be fully packed and i'm hoping to make this as quick and painless as possible. last but not least, it is my hope, once i get fully moved in to post pics or ryan's new place (working on which has been my life the past week or so) and my own as well obviously.

also the two weekends have rocked for shows, first night of pleasure and liquor store at silent barn stared off with me blowing smoke in the lead singer's face then him accidently elbowing my eyebrow, then the pit during liquor store was so badass that i got elbowed in the jaw and couldn't close my teeth for a bit and still thought it was worth it (update: my jaw is fully functional, going at like %90, so no worries) then just two days ago i pregamed at jills, rode to cake shop and saw THOMAS FUNCTION, then rode to rubelade and saw a badass junkyard band then a brazilian psyche garage band. AWESOME!!!!!!

oh yeah, and tonight's the rev of course if any of you losers wanna come by

wow, it's been a while since i've updated my lj. i would like to get back on top of that, but who knows if i'll actually do that.
what has happened since we last talked? lost my job? yeah. still haven't found a new one, but did find a temp gig in the meantime working for BWNK!'s boss that pays pretty well and has awesome hours.
i'm currently on my long planned holiday with boyfriend in denver.
this has included:
1.5 days of work.
a really ugly haircut, well really dye-job.
a fantastic night with two of my favorite ladies.
an awesome fondue dinner.
and a new computer that i'm still very uncomfortable accepting.

but really who cares about all that? so let's move on to
pictures! )

i also drove today for the first time in 4 or so years and i must say i did a pretty good job. now i'm off to go bowling then come home to make and enjoy dinner with my fam then go see two of my favorite ladies AGAIN! twice in one week! golly, i'm one lucky girl.

tmrw will feature going with my mom to watch her handle birds of prey (one of her hobbies) and then clean out each and every thriftstore i can find while spending practically nothing because denver is great for that. i'm going to try to update my lj again tmrw, be it with a consumerism-and-photo-feuled post.
oh crap! i need to fit the new art museum in at some point too! gahhhhhh, bussssssy.

and last but not least, i want to apologize for posting such a girly worthless post upon my return
......woops!

last but not least! one of the artist, john houx, who i serendipitously stumbled upon found my blog. and commented on the nice things i said about him (cause he serisouly was fantastic) and i just found out he's performing at the opening of the biggest cathedral in harlem late saturday morning (but not till dec 6th *tear*) but regardless i'm going to go and it's going to be awesome! if people are interested, i'd like to make a group thing of it and get really good soul food after!

with the gravel in your back.
ahhh, what a lovely weekend daniele has had! it started off friday with a goodbye-job party for this guy. he's leaving for a couple of weeks before returning to the city for culinary school. i always thought i'd be the last to say this after our mutual drams, but i'll kinda miss the guy. he's been nice as of late and just generally enjoyable to kick it with. left that party to go brenda's new boy's gallery and drink free wine and pernot and look at dean goelz' sculptures, like this:
i walked brenda to another party at a fancy roof, but then headed back to the end-of-job party so i could kick it with dan and my reclaimed boyfriend (yeah that's right. we're back together, awww). i should preface by "kick it", i mean sleep sitting up on the sofa while everyone else played video games.

woke up saturday and came home and was productive! i did laundry, cleaned up the backyard, and went shopping for BBQ food and other usefull household items such as handsoap, tp, etc. briefly stopped by my awesome new neighbor's housewarming (fellow nyu alums) and then it was time for the end-of-summer-camp party.
it was my favorite party at 94 evergreen yet! not too big, more laid back crowd, but still full of awesome people.
and it lasted just long enough. towards the end i started pulling a daniele and going on an ocd cleaning/recycling spree but after 8-10 bags enough guests reminded me to relax that i did and really enjoyed myself.

sunday woke up and the house was a mess, but it was way too hot and i was way too distracted to clean it. lazed around with BWNK! (aka reclaimed boyfriend) for a while, then we rode our bikes in a haphazard fashion to socrates sculpture park which was sooooooo lovely, but the ride was gross and hot. rode back to BWNK's, relaxed, showered, watched the some of jets game and then we left for Bamonte's (aka that old, authentic, famous italian place in the 'burg you're always hearing about) it was delicious! and after we came back to his place and ate ice cream while watching planet earth and cheap seats. last but not least i returned my weary bones to my apt where i was greeted by leftover party mess. i moved the boxes that were meant to protect my floor and swept my room and fell asleep uncomfortably in the heat.

yeah so to sum it up:

sunday's heat and humidity = gross, but sculptures, food, booz, a special boy, and awesome friends = fantastic

08 July 2008 @ 08:15 am

so friday (cont'd): on the way back to ryan's we stopped drunkenly at target to get an extension cord and ryan and dan found GLOW-IN-THE-DARK TRANSFORMER AND SPIDERMAN UNDERWEAR (respectively). and then on the way home dan thought it would be a good idea to yell happy fourth at everyone, which we did, and we even got a group of hassid girls to yell back AND a puerto rican family invited us to their BBQ and gave us coronitas! we sadly couldn't stay for their food though because......

that night we had the BBQ at ryan's and i grilled up a storm!

i made real burgers from scratch, grilled them and hot dogs and veggie burgers and veggies dogs and corn on the cob and eggplant and zuchinni!  i wanted to go out to a party at greenpoint after but by the time everyone left and ryan and i finished cleaning, i was waaaaaayyy too exhausted, so I cuddled up to an episode or two and ryan and i's new favorite addiction: cheap seats

saturday
i felt spontaneous so after sleeping in with some wonderful AC ryan and i rode over to  the chinatown bus to philly!!!! it was my first real time in philly and i was so excited; we brought our bikes and rode everywhere and i broke vegetarian :( but only for the sake of enjoying a genuine philly cheesesteak at pat's then we tailgated with ryan's college friends before a phillie's game which we couldn't go to, so instead went to roosevelt(?) park to laze around for a minute before heading to penn's landing for the last demi-heure of ICE CREAM EXTRAVAGANZA and fireworks AND boys II men, all before just missing the 10pm bus back (because of a jerk) and going to wawa and catching the 10:30 bus instead.

sunday i kept it simple by sleeping in and then tidying up ryan and vance's so it wouldn't be a complete mess when vance came home. then going home and doing a little cleaning there and then went to the pool party which featured ronnie spector and the triumphant return of vance!  after the pool party, brenda, jill, rachel, and I all got dinner at mugs, met ryan, rented hot shots, got ice cream, and went back to my place. unfortunately, i had work the next day at 8AM and was very exhausted so i couldn't even make it halfway through the movie.

THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

07 July 2008 @ 03:35 pm
i had a really lovely fourth of july weekend.
i guess the upside to being an adult with an adult job is you really appreciate it when you get an extra day off!

so to recap:
thursday i got off work early and met my wonderful boyfriend for a HUGE lunch at his favorite diner followed by gelato, mmm! then met up with agatha and went to H&M. we decided to play a game where we picked out outfits for each other with the goals of making agatha look like a hipster and myself like a young professional. and we both did really good jobs! i wish i had pics. (sidenote: i keep thinking lately i really wish i had a good digital camera!) then we met up with ryan and headed back to agathas and hang out with jill and asheesh on the sun deck!
THEN we went to this wonderful place and saw phoebe kreutz which was awesome, but accidentally discovered a guy called john houx who was AMAZING!!!!!!!!

friday, woke up and went to awesome outdoor concert in gowanus and got to chill in a tree shaded lawn by a canal sipping on free PBR and SoCo to the tunes of double dagger and two other bands before heading back to the burg to prepare to ryan's rooftop BBQ

gahhhhhhhh running out of time at work, will finish in next entry, too much fun!!!

than it is on the outside,.

so i actually did some stuff this weekend besides laze around in bed, wahoo!

these included showing ryan episode 1 of dr who, rose

also for jill, i was right, it is billie piper in the secret diary of a call girl ads!

FRIDAY went to an awesome tullycraft,.pants yell, and besties concert then drinks at good ole bushwick country club where mini golf is back.

SATURDAY went to ryan's. he fixed up his bike while i read the darling (thanks to jill's suggestion and i'm really liking it) then we went to the renegade craft fair and i saw chris which was awesome (also ATTN JERSEY CITY KIDS: my first assignment at my new job which i start monday, OMG OMG OMG, involves 3 or 4 buildings in jersey city so i should be around a lot and we should hang out, i miss you guys!) and then ryan and i rode over to the brooklyn botanical gardens stopping for chinese on the way. we giot rained ion really hard at the gardens but made the best of it by playing tag, sliding down grassy hills and generally rolling around like little children, then rode to ryan's soaked and proceeded to get even dirtier. got there read and finished the night off with dinner at dumont burgers and hot fuzz at his place on the couch with the AC blasting.

and now i will leave shortly to get my hairs cut then head to agatha's for the pool party (though the weather looks forbodding)

cause she won't have me.
she wakes up awfully early these days
and there's no one else so kind.

i've been bad about updating, but here are some things of note going on in my life:

1) i just got a new job, a real one, with a salary (albeit not a huge one) and things like full benefits and two weeks paid vacation and sick days and personal days and investments and 401Ks, oh my!

2) i got a new phone. nothing fancy just what was free, but i like it and it actually works with no caveats!

3) the boyfriend and i have almost completely weeded the backyard, built out a garden bed, planted spinach, and started morning glory, eggplant, and bell pepper seedlings to be panted at a later date.

4) read omnivore's dilmena and everyone is right; it is AWESOME!

so.........
things are pretty good, you know?
i just want to hang out in jersey city more and see people like scott and katherine and david more than once a month.
always want to cook more, and finish the backyard so i can hang christmas lights on the trees, put the kitchen table out back and romantically lit dinner parties.

egads! when did i get so old and boring?

13 March 2008 @ 01:43 pm
everything is relational, most of all meaning.
that said i'm feeling rather tickled lately. not happy. not content. not joyous. not irritated.
vaguely out of control, beyond my means perhaps, but still doing okay and laughing the whole way, even if i'm not sure i want to be.

yeah my work is stinky, but it's not the spoiled milk, cigarette buts, or half full bottle of beer. oh no, it's my coworkers, new and old both, cause they're the shit. outside of my job being awesome and my new boss sane, they really are amazing and make me laugh at myself when i need to.

i need to do some catch up with school and buckle down, but it's hard. senioritis like whoa!
despite being the fuck up i am, i've stumbled into an awesome relationship.
now my finances that another story.....

and the big news! rachel and i should be moving may 1st! i'm really excited for a number of reasons
1) we will be moving to williamsburg and will finally be in walking distance of so many of our friends
2) awkwardness followed by a broken foot means that i have not spent nearly enough time with rachel and it's definitely left me feeling a little void which manifest in my interactions with others. i never realized how accustomed to her presence i'd become and how much i love and need her. we watched american idol last tuesday night and just that was ridiculously soothing for me. hopefully apt hunting and moving stuff will force our busy crazy selves to see each other more.
3) we'll be moving in with my doppleganger who i never get to see anymore and who will be a really fun roomie i predict.
4) SUMMER IN WILLIAMSBURG!!!! (i mean what else can i say)

what i'm doing right now. you may not. you probably are not, but! nonetheless

I"M LISTENING TO MY BRAND SPANKING NEWW GORGEOUS RECORD PLAYER!!!!

and it is awesome. the first song rachel and i put on was rod n' reel by the besties and we sat and jumped around the kitchen and it was glorious! i can't explain how happy i am today. it's gorgeous out and i get to spend my day outside pretty much as much as i want with my job (not to mention my coworker carrie is amazing and i love her and we have so much fun joking around and goofing off all day at work)  and i've been riding my bike tons and despite some whining (poor BWNK! he took me to harlem on my bike for the first time!) i feel great. my coincidental-i-suppose-it's-a new years resolution (?) is to really get it touch with my body. listening to it and what makes it happy. i've been doing this the past couple of days and it's crazy the difference it makes! i ride tons and eat so much better. (my inspiration was days of war, nights of love which i'm reading and almost done with, it interrupted my reading of visions of cody which i still really need to finish!) also that book is so comforting to me and i love a lot of the ideas in it even if it is a bit simplistic at times.
oh! and i saw ravens and chimes last night and although it was a short set, it was lovely and the band that played before them, the art of shooting, was great too.

ahhhhhhh, life is so so so so so so so so good!
oh! and stevie wonder sounds really fucking good on vinyl.
