so look i'm posting again, so soon!
as an update from last time here are some adorable pictures of my parents and i and california:
catalina cove

dad, i, and the mystery machine

mom and i at san capistrano (an old spanish mission)

so last time i posted i mentioned i had an exciting week ahead which was true, so let's review shall we?

SATURDAY helped jill with her play and hung out in midtown crashing at agatha's
SUNDAY left from agatha's and rode to my coworkers morning-after birthday party uptown and got SOAKED! but then came home changed and went to bowery ballroom to see the antlers, the papercuts, and vetiver and it was so mellow and beautiful and amazing! never heard the antlers before and they were surprisingly good for an opener-opener, papercuts are an old fav or BWNK!'s and didn't disappoint, but vetiver was AMAZING, a little tear of joy even came to my eye right as they played everyday cause i was there with BWNK! and i'd been dreaming of it all week.

MONDAY - yoga as per usual and later was the rev at black betty, only 6 more performances left till black betty is gone forever!
BWNK!, vance, lisa, and josie all came out. Unfortunately i had to leave before they played my fav song, TANGALICIOUS!, because i had "an interview" the next morning at 10am in midtown, LAMEZ : /

TUESDAY - "interview" turned out to be a total scam! i was so pissed but got home and jill asked me to go to yoga and even though it was the intermediate class we decided to go and WOAH! it was so intense but so amazing and it really helped out a crappy day. missed the comedy show in my own attic, but went to kiser's bday at b-side which was nice

WEDNESDAY - i ran 6 miles! i ran from my house to thompkins sq park walked the three edges of the park then ran back home. first time using my new running shoes in the city and it was awesome. then i got a haircut:
BEFORE:                                                                                            AFTER:

i pretty much just got bangs and cut out some of the crazy mulletness in the back. whaddayathink?

after haircut, i had NOW book club in manhattan on 28th st at 7th where we discussed francis perkins, which left me not far from woagies where i met up with BWNK! and noelle to go to  bowery ballroom again! and see...

AKRON/FAMILY and HOLYFUCKINSHITOMGSWEETJESUSFUCKSHITWOAH! it was the most intense, beautiful, spiritual, community experience of a show i think i have ever been to. the music was fantastic and made me want to dance from practially the first note and the whole crowd was SO into it. we all sang along and danced together like one big, weird tribe and it was great. two guys, a father and son actually, that play with the rev a lotwere part of the opening band and they played with the band too. they were all rockin out so hard, like 20 min jam sessions and shizzzz, AMAZING!!!!!!!! and i'm def not the only one that thinks so.

THURSDAY i went to yoga again as per unemployed usual, but generally spent most of the day trying to be responsible and apply for job and being online and whatnot. met up with BWNK! walked around got a tent for the-fastly-approaching-Maine-trip! and a bottle of cheap ass georgi and sodas which we sat around in a courtyard and drank and played 21 question while killing time before before never again which was amazing again (i have such talented friends!) then evan, beller, jill, BWNK!, kate, and i all kicked it at rudy's for a bit then jill, beller, BWNK!, and i all took the train home together. it was really a simple, lovely evening with friends. unfortunately, i missed mushpot dj night in redhook :(

TODAY! so far all i've done is help jill and BWNK! pick up all the props from the tank and bring them back to her house, apply for some jobs, and make and eat lunch, but! i am planning on seeing the thermals tonight (again at bowery ballroom, what do i live there?!)

02 May 2009 @ 02:54 pm
soooo, what has daniele been up to?
well for starters i'm UNEMPLOYED AGAIN, but this time it is AWESOME! becasue:

1) I qualify and should soon be receiving unemployment benefits!
2) I've been very good about keeping myself busy:
2a) I've applied for a lot of jobs and already have lined up two interviews, one which may send me away from new york more on that here )
2b) I also worked helping jill put the benefit party for her play together, which although financially was a success was socially a bit of a disaster and involved me being a baby and getting very upset when this gal passed out drunk in my bed in a pool of her own vomit. i also had to leave the next day from newark to hop a plane to california to see my parents, speaking of which

CALIFORNIA!

that's catalina island, my fav part of california we visited. it's a pretty rad place and has a fun history.
we rode bikes, ran along the pacific coast highway, ate LOTS of seafood, and just generally relaxed.
it was really nice :)  i love my parents.

back to keeping busy:
2c) i've been doing yoga at an awesome place near my house where it's only $5 if you go at 2pm on a weekday, which now that I'm unemployed I can do, yay! I go the beginner class twice a week and pilates once a week, looking forward to getting better so I can start doing the intermediate class they also have twice a week, so i can do MOAR yoga and have a more flexible schedule.

OTHER GENERAL NEWS:

A) i went to lancaster for easter and played frisbee golf again and had a blast kickin' t with BWNK!'s fam. i also picked up some thrifted stuff one of which was an oversized dress that i altered myself to make fit, someone's getting better with a sewing machine and i think it might be this gal.
B) right when i got back form there i went to a kickass liquor store/no bunny show at union pool and had a blast.
C) later that week i saw dead milkmen and corn mo at a place in greenpoint. it was an EPIC show; i had the shit beat and suffocated out of me but had a great time and still managed to ride and make it to josie's bday party (granted very late) after which i rode home and collapsed and slept for a long long time.

ZE FUTUR:
702) pretty stoked about how things are going, have tickets for:
702P) vetiver/papercuts this sunday at bowery ballroom
702Q) akron/family at the same place wednesday
     703R) the thermals this friday!!!
703S) and bill callahan and animal collective in the more distant future
703) also have a interview lined up for tuesday morning
704) THEN after all that i leave for BWNK! and i's super-special bonnie and clyde road/camping trip to maine and arcadia national forest!!!

ALSO OF NOTE:

M8) my roommate sheena is having a comedy show in our attic this tuesday
N9) scott is speaking about wine to gallatin alums tuesday
O10) jill's play, before never again starts tonight!
P11) the beets will be playing their anniversary show at out house MAY31ST
Q12) ryan, vance, and lisa will be having a housewarming BBQ the weekend before that to celebrate memorial day
R13) there's a camping trip to lancaster the may15-17, so COME!
S14) AND the ladies of mushpot will be having a dj night in red hook this thursday
T15) very very sad news, fanatic folded, yall :(

WOOOOOOO, life is busy. catch you later

hey guys, remember when i actually used to use this things to make thoughtful (?) entries lightly sprinkled with entertaining links and/or images rather than spending hours upon hours at work refreshing my twitter page?
oh the good old days, anyways, there's a LOT going on in my life i don't have time to really update people on, but i hope to soon. most importantly right now is:

I WILL BE MOVING THIS WEEKEND FROM MY OLD PLACE TO TWO BLOCKS FROM THE LORIMER L/ METROPOLITAN G

i would really appreciate anyone's help i can get. i WILL be fully packed and i'm hoping to make this as quick and painless as possible. last but not least, it is my hope, once i get fully moved in to post pics or ryan's new place (working on which has been my life the past week or so) and my own as well obviously.

also the two weekends have rocked for shows, first night of pleasure and liquor store at silent barn stared off with me blowing smoke in the lead singer's face then him accidently elbowing my eyebrow, then the pit during liquor store was so badass that i got elbowed in the jaw and couldn't close my teeth for a bit and still thought it was worth it (update: my jaw is fully functional, going at like %90, so no worries) then just two days ago i pregamed at jills, rode to cake shop and saw THOMAS FUNCTION, then rode to rubelade and saw a badass junkyard band then a brazilian psyche garage band. AWESOME!!!!!!

oh yeah, and tonight's the rev of course if any of you losers wanna come by

life is busy! but good.
SHOWS! )

AND FOOTBALL... )

AND YOU?! )

last but not least! one of the artist, john houx, who i serendipitously stumbled upon found my blog. and commented on the nice things i said about him (cause he serisouly was fantastic) and i just found out he's performing at the opening of the biggest cathedral in harlem late saturday morning (but not till dec 6th *tear*) but regardless i'm going to go and it's going to be awesome! if people are interested, i'd like to make a group thing of it and get really good soul food after!

i had a really lovely fourth of july weekend.
i guess the upside to being an adult with an adult job is you really appreciate it when you get an extra day off!

so to recap:
thursday i got off work early and met my wonderful boyfriend for a HUGE lunch at his favorite diner followed by gelato, mmm! then met up with agatha and went to H&M. we decided to play a game where we picked out outfits for each other with the goals of making agatha look like a hipster and myself like a young professional. and we both did really good jobs! i wish i had pics. (sidenote: i keep thinking lately i really wish i had a good digital camera!) then we met up with ryan and headed back to agathas and hang out with jill and asheesh on the sun deck!
THEN we went to this wonderful place and saw phoebe kreutz which was awesome, but accidentally discovered a guy called john houx who was AMAZING!!!!!!!!

friday, woke up and went to awesome outdoor concert in gowanus and got to chill in a tree shaded lawn by a canal sipping on free PBR and SoCo to the tunes of double dagger and two other bands before heading back to the burg to prepare to ryan's rooftop BBQ

gahhhhhhhh running out of time at work, will finish in next entry, too much fun!!!

than it is on the outside,.

so i actually did some stuff this weekend besides laze around in bed, wahoo!

these included showing ryan episode 1 of dr who, rose

also for jill, i was right, it is billie piper in the secret diary of a call girl ads!

FRIDAY went to an awesome tullycraft,.pants yell, and besties concert then drinks at good ole bushwick country club where mini golf is back.

SATURDAY went to ryan's. he fixed up his bike while i read the darling (thanks to jill's suggestion and i'm really liking it) then we went to the renegade craft fair and i saw chris which was awesome (also ATTN JERSEY CITY KIDS: my first assignment at my new job which i start monday, OMG OMG OMG, involves 3 or 4 buildings in jersey city so i should be around a lot and we should hang out, i miss you guys!) and then ryan and i rode over to the brooklyn botanical gardens stopping for chinese on the way. we giot rained ion really hard at the gardens but made the best of it by playing tag, sliding down grassy hills and generally rolling around like little children, then rode to ryan's soaked and proceeded to get even dirtier. got there read and finished the night off with dinner at dumont burgers and hot fuzz at his place on the couch with the AC blasting.

and now i will leave shortly to get my hairs cut then head to agatha's for the pool party (though the weather looks forbodding)

for some reason this  comes up on google images when you search "daniele broked it"
as i type this on my broken laptop.

point is the screen on my phone is broken, as if the fucked up battery was not enough or the gears and seat on my bike being broken too. oh yeah, and my earphones broke today too, oof.
so if you try to text me i will not receive it. hell i may not even be able to get calls. i guess i need to break down and get a new phone.....
and i finally had enough money for my tattoo too.

you see that

yeah i just got that. ahh, drugs and vinyl, like a horse and carriage.
went to see white rabbits last night. couldn't get in.
ended up at tom's badass apartment drinking whiskey, watching neil, and girl talking with josie and jill
fun times and i left my phone there, oops.

slept there and on my way home picked up the previously mentioned vinyl, as well as this movie's soundtrack which looks awesome, 'til tuesday's voices carry, and aretha franklin, pat benetar, david bowie, and patti labelle 45s.

so rachel and i failed in our attempt to skank so hard we kicked ourselves in the jaw, but we discovered something even better.
her name is phoebe kreutz and she's just so lovely. so funny. so candid.

she's playing sunday at barnes and nobles (because she's written a lot of songs about books) which may not work, but!
i WILL be at her february 21st show at sidewalk cafe (6th and A). nothing will hinder me!
her live performance is so much better than what she has online but i still love it.
she also has a myspace. this girl was also cute.

all rachel and i could do the whole time was sit around and say, "oh my god i'm so in love with this girl" over and over again.
oh and sometimes boys are lame. but phoebe already knew that.

what i'm doing right now. you may not. you probably are not, but! nonetheless

I"M LISTENING TO MY BRAND SPANKING NEWW GORGEOUS RECORD PLAYER!!!!

and it is awesome. the first song rachel and i put on was rod n' reel by the besties and we sat and jumped around the kitchen and it was glorious! i can't explain how happy i am today. it's gorgeous out and i get to spend my day outside pretty much as much as i want with my job (not to mention my coworker carrie is amazing and i love her and we have so much fun joking around and goofing off all day at work)  and i've been riding my bike tons and despite some whining (poor BWNK! he took me to harlem on my bike for the first time!) i feel great. my coincidental-i-suppose-it's-a new years resolution (?) is to really get it touch with my body. listening to it and what makes it happy. i've been doing this the past couple of days and it's crazy the difference it makes! i ride tons and eat so much better. (my inspiration was days of war, nights of love which i'm reading and almost done with, it interrupted my reading of visions of cody which i still really need to finish!) also that book is so comforting to me and i love a lot of the ideas in it even if it is a bit simplistic at times.
oh! and i saw ravens and chimes last night and although it was a short set, it was lovely and the band that played before them, the art of shooting, was great too.

ahhhhhhh, life is so so so so so so so so good!
oh! and stevie wonder sounds really fucking good on vinyl.

apparently all i know how to do anymore is post links and recap, so in that order:
this is one of the few interesting and relevant article about presidential nominees i've seen all year, that said it's not exactly motivating, my favorite quote:
AMY GOODMAN: Are you saying that there’s no difference between these candidates?
ALLAN NAIRN: (blah blah blah) But there is a difference in this sense: the US is so vastly powerful, the US influences and has the potential to end so many millions of lives around the world, that if, let’s say, you have two candidates that are 99% the same—there’s only 1% difference between them—if you’re talking about decisions that affect a million lives—1% of a million is 10,000—that’s 10,000 lives. So, even though it’s a bitter choice, if you choose the one who is going to kill 10,000 fewer people, well, then you’ve saved 10,000 lives.

oh and interesting things going on in the coming few days:
1) care bears on fire at union hall, 2pm, saturday, $5
2) ravens and chimes at mercury lounge, 7-or-8-ish, monday, $8
3) j hoberman lecture/daynightdaynight screening at museum of the moving image, saturday, 7pm, $10
4) seeing there will be blood will daniele and andrew because it is looks so good (and yes maybe daniele does have a small crush on paul dano but that it completely inconsequential!), sunday, ~$10
5) dr.mario tournament/cupcake eating contest, tuesday, 1/15, my place, evening, FREE!
6) daniele gets her record player in the mail!, 1/7, monday.

you know when you hear an awesome song all over the place, but never manage to catch the name of it.
well i found it. yes it. this is that song for this summer, summer of autonomy 07'

the youtube embed won't work, so just click here
that's PB&J (Peter, Bjorn, and John for all us musical heathens out there). the song's young folks
the song is ridiculously catchy and fun, not to mention the video is nice too

BUT!!! to top it all, guess who got a surprise call from none other than AGATHA M COLE for an impromtu lunch date?
yeah, that'd be me bitches! she had an unexpected layover and was only in town for a few hours, so we met for a quick lunch. it was so good to see her. i can't wait for her to come back and for our tutorial with duncombe to start. it will probably be the light of my life for three months.

man, i could really use that in my life right now.

why, i just don't know.
makes me feel all gill-scott-heron-warm fuzzy (you know except shallower and less political), but i still have to appreciate the aesthetic and booty-shaking-osity
i'm a little late onto this gravy train, but the band is called The Go! Team and.....
they're coming stateside in october, so the only question remains, whose with me?
